Elements of the Perfect Master Bedroom

Your master bedroom should be a sanctuary. But aside from the bed, you’ll need a few key elements to create a space that feels fit for rest and relaxation. Whether you’re decorating your first master or want to spruce up an existing room that isn’t quite working for you, here are a few master bedroom essentials to get you started and how to best use them.

Rugs

Early mornings are difficult enough, but having stark, cold flooring be the first thing your feet touch makes those early mornings all the more unpleasant. Remedy that by placing a rug right at the spot where you would swing your feet out of bed. While a large area rug that sits mostly under the bed and extends a few feet on either side is ideal, this option can also be pricey. Instead, try using runners placed alongside the length of your bed.

Mirrors

They’re a convenient place to check your outfit, but sitting up to your mirror image in the morning can be a jarring sight. Proper placement is the key to hanging mirrors in your master. Try placing two long mirrors at either side of your bed. And take note of what will be reflected in the mirror – see if you can reflect a great piece of artwork or well-loved photo for an image you won’t mind seeing twice.

Seating

Whether you’re reading a book or want a place to put on a pair of socks, seating is a must. A simple chaise or arm chair works, or spring for a love seat or full couch for more seating. A bench at the foot of your bed is another good space-conscious option, or use a chest and gain a bit of extra storage.

Bedside table and lighting

You’ll need a place to keep all of your night-time essentials. Look for something with a drawer for discrete, clutter-free storage or go minimal with a floating shelf. If you tend to read or do work in bed, find a lamp that’s high enough to provide adequate lighting while you’re reading, or install a wall light. If you prefer to use just one nightstand, balance the other side with an ottoman, stool or a mid-height floor lamp.

The Many Benefits of Home Staging

Studies show that a staged home appeals to a larger audience, assists with a quicker sale and gives you a better return on your investment. What could be better?

When you have your home staged there are a few essentials that happen. First, a fresh set of “trained” eyes look at your home to determine its features and its flaws. From there, an experienced home stager will highlight the features or sometimes even create them and distract from any flaws by drawing attention elsewhere.

It all starts with depersonalizing your home so that more buyers can picture themselves living there. Then comes the neutralizing of the space, through colour and often times de-cluttering the rooms. From there, the home stager will add drama where needed with accessories to give your home that much needed WOW factor.

The cost of having a professional come in and stage a home varies according to how much work is needed. Home stagers often rent furniture, purchase accessories including carpets, lamps and the right pieces to create drama and mass appeal.

Stagers may bring in art, or choose a new paint colour, or even assist you with purchasing new pieces which will work in your new home décor as well. Your stager should also include a list of items which will help in selling your home, for example some need a reminder to add a new light bulb or paint the front door, it all depends on your individual homes needs.

Then, of course, there’s budget to consider – everyone has one! No matter if you are just paying for the stager’s time, and receive a list of do’s and don’ts or if you need the full gamut, a staged home is a sold home, just ask the experts! Check with just about any REALTOR® these days and they will tell you having a staged home makes their job much easier and allows them to focus on marketing and negotiating the sale of your home.

Having your home staged makes it appear like a model home and isn’t that how we all visualize our homes to be!
