Remembrance Day

“Our hopes are high. Our faith in the people is great. Our courage is strong. And our dreams for this beautiful country will never die.” – Pierre Elliott Trudeau

Remembrance Day is commemorated on the 11th of November each year and marks the end of World War 1 in 1918. The armistice went into effect at 11:00 am – the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month”.

Together as a nation we observe Two Minutes of Silence to mark the sacrifice of the many who have fallen in the service of their country, and to acknowledge the courage of those who still serve. We are stronger because of their service and safe because of their courage and sacrifice.

By wearing the Poppy, we demonstrate our gratitude to those who gave their lives for the freedom we enjoy. They are reminders of those who died while fighting for peace: we wear them as reminders of the horrors of conflict and the preciousness of the peace they fought hard to achieve.
