Charity fundraisers have become a passionate commitment among those of us who want to make a difference in our communities – to help create a better life for those less fortunate. When deciding where to give, it only makes sense to put my charity dollars back into the communities in which I work and live. I am proud to be among the corporate citizens who are helping Oakville and Burlington become stronger, more vibrant communities for all.
I spend much of my time supporting local causes and for this reason I am proud to be the title sponsor of the Big Brothers Big Sisters Swing for Kids Sake campaign. The Dan Cooper Celebrity Invitational Golf Tournament features some famous names such as CFL greats Matt Dunigan and Miles Gorrell, Canadian actor Art Hindle, sports broadcaster and former NHL executive Gord Stellick and others will join me at Glen Abbey Golf Club on Thursday, June 24th to help a great cause that supports more than 750 local children.
Our young people are our future leaders and it is critical that we provide all the support we can to ensure they develop into good citizens, business people and community leaders. Many of my chosen charities have a focus on our youth and that is why I have become so deeply involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton.
I encourage everyone who has a similar interest in youth programs to please participate in or to give to this very worthy and important cause. The tournament itself promises to be a fantastic day of golf, friendship and a spirit of achievement. We offer two types of foursomes: celebrity threesomes available for $2,500 and regular foursomes for $1,200. This includes green fees, cart, buffet lunch, prime rib dinner and more. This is a premier tournament and an excellent opportunity for businesses to treat clients or staff to a great day on the links while helping provide a girl or boy from this community with a mentor. If you can’t join us, I encourage you to sponsor a hole or donate an item to the live or silent auction.
Providing a mentor for youth at-risk positively impacts that child’s life forever. Most of us, if we look back at our own successes, have had someone to guide us, offer advice, support and encouragement. However, mentoring is more than just that. Mentoring is also about the power of friendship; especially children who need someone to laugh with, share a dream with or just to hang out with. “Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton continues to have a long waiting list of children who are looking for a positive mentoring relationship in their lives,” explains Jeff Turk, BBBSH Board Chairman. “We are funded in part by the United Way, but require the support of our community in order to continue the work we do. We do not receive any ongoing government funding. That is why the help from corporate community leaders such as Dan Cooper is greatly needed and appreciated.
“Dan is a fantastic supporter of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton,” Jeff continues. “He has not only given generously to our agency, more importantly he has given his time which I consider to be extremely valuable.” I am more than happy to provide time and financial resources to organizations such as the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton because they are making a significant difference in our community – making Oakville and area a better place to live for our children and all of us. With that in mind, please join me at the Abbey for a great day of golf. Registering is easy. Call Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton at (905) 339-2355 and let them know that you’ll “chip in.”
